Well, January is out the way, and after weeks of work, we have carried out quite a lot of jobs in Mandalay. The bathroom has been completely re-furbished, although you might, at first glance not notice it; some of the walls have been replaced, there is a brand new bath, new tiling, and much re-siting[…]
Availability at Mandalay in June The 18th to 25th June is very unexpectedly available this year, due to a late cancellation. To all of those of you who struggle to find a week here due to perpetual repeat bookings – this is your opportunity, and at a time when the summer should be in full[…]
January is always our month for doing major reconstruction work to Mandalay, and this year is no exception. . The extension to the front deck has given us more space for sitting and eating, offers more sunshine earlier in the day at the front, and a cracking view of Southwold town. The new storage box[…]
More sparrows flitting around Mandalay than we have ever had before. Their antics, together with the hooligan starlings, on the bird feeder, keep us entertained
One of the features of the Suffolk coast is the huge skies, accentuated by the relative flatness of the surrounding countryside. All of these pictures have been taken in, or around Mandalay in Ferry Road Southwold, so you too could enjoy some of the most beautiful sunsets from this wonderful beach location.
Mandalay Ted has returned from Harrogate to take up residence in the lifebelt again
In a time when high streets get more standardised all round the country, even though a few well=known names are creeping into Southwold, it boldly resists becoming a ubiquitous copy of every other town. Although the horse-drawn dray of Adnams is a distant memory, the summer months are brightened by a horse drawn wagon, which[…]
Mandalay Ted has finally been tracked down as he has been spotted in Harrogate, Yorkshire, although why he would want to leave Southwold for the frozen North is beyond us. It seems he may have been kidnapped by two other bears, named Henry and Charlie, although the attached picture may not be conclusive evidence that[…]
For years, Mandalay Ted has sat quietly in his lifebelt in the front bedroom, waiting for children to return year after year, but suddenly, this year in, in April, he has disappeared for an unplanned holiday to York, where he will be spending a couple of weeks. Luckily, his cousin, Temporary Ted from Birmingham was[…]
Back in Mandalay, following numerous requests, we have re-instated a sofa, (not a sofabed) for those that like to curl up, but kept the most comfortable of the wicker chairs for others. Please let us know what you think of this change. We believe you will find it more comfortable.
The observant amongst you may have noticed that there were no Mandalay blogs in January, for the very good reason that we were very busy (in between appalling weather) with maintenance. For those of you who wanted to book a weekend in January, we are very sorry, But I am sure you will understand that[…]
Crisp bright mornings and long shadows on late autumn sunshine afternoons are the norm at this time of year. Perfect for dog walking, or just a stroll along the beach to walk off a late lunch…
I suppose being right on the beach, with the town in the background, it shouldn’t be surprising that it figures so often in artists compositions, and here are yet three more that have turned up recently. The first one by Max Brimmell, is interesting for as it dates back to, I think, the 1960s, and[…]
The Coastal Voyager jetty in Southwold harbour is just a short stroll away from Mandalay, and on offer is a choice of hammering through the waves out at sea at top speed, or a more gentle cruise up the River Blyth to Blythburgh, tides permitting. The latter is the trip that we took, courtesy of[…]
The annual Southwold Pier to Pub swim nearly went horribly wrong this year, when a late start meant that the swimmers found themselves swimming against a tide so strong that they were swept in the wrong direction, and many were trapped for as long as an hour and a half in extremely cold water, awaiting[…]
After a few years where there has been no bus service down to the end of Ferry Road, due to a bus ban along the High Street, at last it is possible to hop on the new Southwold Shuttle Bus at the stop which is only 50 yards from Mandalay’s front door. What’s more, this[…]
